Easter Homework

Hi Year 5,

I hope that you have all had a safe, happy and successful two weeks since we have been away from school. The next two weeks are the Easter holidays. Of course, these are going to be incredibly different to any other that we have ever had. There will not be any daily work set during the next two weeks (Monday 6th April - Friday 17th April) as you would not normally have any work to do each day over Easter. You have all worked so hard over the past few weeks and all deserve a break! Instead, there will be the usual homework that would be set over the holidays as well as few extra bits of work.

These will be:

  • the new topic homework for our next topic, Allotment
  • activities based on our next author of the term
  • a Firedamp and Davy Lamp end of topic quiz (I will upload the knowledge organiser in case you can't find yours.)
  • a Holy Week and Easter reflection booklet
  • a boys against girls TT Rockstars battle
  • a Forces end of science topic quiz
  • a Plants science knowledge organiser.

More information about each task can be found below. Do not feel that you have to get everything done on one day. You have got two weeks to complete these tasks.

The knowledge organiser for our Allotment topic will also be uploaded to give you an opportunity to start reading this and use it to support you in your topic homework.

Daily home learning work will be provided after the Easter Holidays from Monday 20th April.

I am so very proud of all the hard work and commitment you have shown all year and especially over the last two weeks. I know that these are very uneasy and unsettling times but keep trying your best and making us all proud. I can't wait to see you all and be back at school together.

I hope that you all have a safe, happy and holy Easter.

Mr Bennett

RE

During the first week of the Easter holidays, we will be in Holy Week. This week begins with Palm Sunday (5th April) and includes Maundy Thursday (9th April), Good Friday (10th April) and ends with Easter Sunday (12th April) when Jesus rose from the dead. There is a Holy Week reflection booklet attached below which gives information about this incredibly special time and gives you a reflection to take part in each day.

Author of the term

Our new author the term is Robert Swindells. He books include Room 13, The Ice Palace and Abomination. Research this fantastic author and use this to complete the author fact file that I have attached below.  If you have read any of his books or have any at home, complete the book review sheet below. Keep this safe and when we are back in school, you can add this to our Recommended Reads folder.

Topic homework

Our new topic is 'Allotment'. During this topic, we will be learning about different types of land, different types of land use, the advantages of these and similarities and differences in land use around the world. You will find a variety of creative and written tasks to complete over the next few weeks. Try to complete at least one creative and one written piece but you are free to do as many as you would like.

TT Rockstars battle

Starting on Monday 6th April, there will be a Y5 boys versus Y5 girls battle on TT Rockstars which will last throughout the two weeks of the Easter holidays (Monday 6th April - Friday 17th April). In the last battle, the girls were incredibly far ahead but stopped trying their best and the boys managed to comeback and win the battle. Let's see what happens this time!
