Why Do Leaves Go Crispy?

Welcome back. We hope you have had a restful half term holiday and are ready for a busy Autumn term. Our topic this term is looking at Autumn and how the seasons change. We will be investigating different woodland environments and some of the animals who live in the woodland. We will also be looking at the changes that take place in trees over the seasons, and how leaves change during Autumn.

For our launch day we will be taking a trip to Sherwood Pines forest to see if we can find the Gruffalo and his friends! Some of the books we will focus on this topic are The Scarecrows Wedding, Pumpkin Soup, The Gruffalo and Farmer Duck.

PE continues to be on a Monday so please ensure your child has their PE kit in school. Please keep a look out on our website page for any updates as our topic progresses.

Who Lives In A Rock Pool?

Welcome to Reception class! In Reception all of our topics are thought provoking and ask the children a question. Our question this half term is 'Who Lives In A Rock Pool?'

This topic allows the children to get to know each other better by discussing and investigating a common theme of exploring under the sea and talking about different sea creatures and their own experiences of visiting the seaside. It provides children with an opportunity to explore a familiar environment to many of them and to compare their own experiences. Some of the things we will investigate during this topic are the different creatures who live in a rock pool, how we can help to keep beaches clean and what happens if we don't, and also the life cycle of a turtle! During this topic we will read and enjoy many familiar stories together such as 'The Snail and the Whale' and 'Barry the Fish With Fingers.'

In Reception class we will be having a PE session on a Monday, children will need to ensure they have their PE kits in school on Monday to allow them to participate fully in these sessions, this includes appropriate footwear for indoor and outdoor sessions.

If you have not already sent a pair of labelled wellington boots into school for your child to use we would greatly appreciate it if you could do this to ensure the children are able to access the outdoor area to its full extent.

We love to upload photographs of our time in Reception and we hope you will keep checking back to see what we have been up to.
